PERFORMANCE OPTIONS

 

 

CONCERTS:

*TRADITIONAL MUSIC AND DANCE FEATURING OKROPONG

*CONTEMPORARY MUSIC FEATURING KUKRUDU

*SOLO CONCERTS WHICH INCLUDE DRUMMING, SINGING AND STORYTELLING.

 

 

RHYTHM AND THE ROOTS OF CHANGE:

A concert presentation by Obo's two African ensembles, Okropong and Kukrudu. Okropong does the traditional music and dance of Ghana's villages and traditions. Kukrudu plays original music that has developed from Highlife music. The total show traces the history of Ghana's music from long ago to the present time.

 

GHANAIAN FESTIVAL PACKAGE:

A menu of participatory residency activities covering drumming (beginning and intermediate), dance, costuming, food, a traditional processional and a question and answer session on the culture and music of Ghana. The festival grew out of the Homowo Festival,the traditional Ghanaian harvest celebration which Obo has been presenting in Portland, Oregon for the past nine years.

 

RHYTHM EXPLOSION:

A performance/workshop package designed for high school audiences. The performance contrasts traditional with modern music from Ghana. The workshops help students to understand more about composition using traditional rhythms as well as to give an overview of the culture of Ghana.

 

WORKSHOPS:

*Introductory dance

*Introductory drumming

*Intermediate drumming

*Master classes in dance or drumming
